Dear Mr Whisper

Dear Mr Whisper,
are you fine?
Would you like to come away with me?
Would you like to break away from your sad responsibilities,
your duties, both princely and scholarly ones?
Throw away your teacher's garb,
throw away your other worldly mantle,
throw away your dusty black hat,
and fix on your soft brown cloth cap,
throw away your thick blue glasses,
and see the world as you like to see it,
with your bright, greener than grass eyes.

Come away with me,
my darling Mr Whisper.
We could go see your old friends,
the trout,
the swan,
Aeolus and Nimbus,
and to hell with the great big ugly King Of The Underworld,
the little toad.

Come with me, Mr Whisper,
and we'll go see King Neptune,
in his underwater palace,
with all his beautiful mermaids.
We can go find that big rock,
that big rock with the pink vein running in it,
and hear the sea crashing in on all sides.

And, we can go to South Devon,
lay under the trees,
under the sun,
under the pink sky,
with pine cones tangled in our hair.

Come away with me one day,
my Mr Whisper,
shuck your teacher's robes,
and walk with me,
and i'll get you back
in time for Ronnie and Kathy's history lesson,
your favourite, i know.
